![]() Swiping the bottom left side of the screen moves you left and right, while the right side of the screen controls jumping and slashing away at obstacles or enemies with your magical weapons. The touch controls work as well as they can. The game boasts both touch controls and support from MFi controllers. No two levels look alike, and you’ll never find yourself bored. They span settings ranging from magical forests to snow-capped mountains to treacherous mines. The levels in Oddmar are appropriately varied. I’m happy to report that it does this marvelously. ![]() In other words, reinventing the wheel this isn’t!īut, then again, when the wheel works as well as it does, why try and reinvent it? Oddmar’s success doesn’t rely on bold new ideas, so much as how well it remixes and executes theses existing pieces. In each level, you contend with assorted baddies, jump over spikes, collect coin equivalents, and solve puzzles that typically involve moving something, climbing on something, or mastering the timing on something.įail to do any of these things correctly and you shoot back to the beginning of the level - or at least to the previous checkpoint. It’s a series of one-off levels, joined together on a map screen that spans a variety of different worlds. ![]() While the Norse setting is certainly novel, the game structure will be familiar to anyone who has ever played a Super Mario game. In Oddmar, you guide the titular Viking through 24 levels to prove yourself worthy of Valhalla, the Asgardian hall ruled over by the god Odin. Jump forward the best part of four years, and the team behind Leo’s Fortune is back. I would definitely recommend this game and you have the advantage of trying the game first before buying the full game. When it landed in the App Store back in 2014, Leo’s Fortune quickly became one of my favorite games of the year. Your goal was to guide a moustachio’d monster through a series of levels to win back your purloined fortune. Somehow that oddball concept became a beautifully charming game. The game is by developed by a small independent company mobi.ge and published by Senri (who are behind another great platformer Leo’s fortune available on all formats) Each level doesn’t take that long to complete so great for when you only have a small amount of time to play on the go etc. There is a bit of replay value so you 100% each level by collecting all the coins, finding the secret coins, speed run and completing the special areas of the levels. The gameplay is like any other platform game, collecting items, moving items to help complete the level of get to other areas. I have an ipega extendable game controller that I use with my android devices so can get the feel of a proper console like the Nintendo switch but using my mobile or tablet. Playing with a physical controller just makes any game more fun. This is one thing that is missing from a lot of mobile games. Though the one great welcome addition to this game is support for controllers. The controls are just swipe left or right on the left side of the screen and tap in different places on the right for each of the abilities. As are all the animations within the game, this includes the intros to each level. I love the way he jumps by creating mushrooms that he jumps from which is great fun to watch. Oddmar has 3 different abilities jump, attach and power bounce. The graphics of the game are a very vibrant cartoon style which fits really well, the art style remind me of some of the Rayman games from a few years ago like legends and origins. The price is only £3.69 which is good value for a game of this quality. The game is free to download and then just a one off in app purchase to unlock all the levels, I’ve just quickly played it and got to level 4, so assume will purchase after the first world. ![]() The game is set over 24 nicely crafted levels set over 4 worlds. ![]() The game tells the story of oddmar who is a bit of a misfit in his village of vikings until he gets special powers to help him to valhalla. I have just found a stunning platform game released on Android called Oddmar, though the games has been on ios for 9 months now. ![]()
